Cleaning Balls for Power Plant Condensers
Steam turbine condensers in thermal power plants run continuously, circulating millions of litres of cooling water through thousands of tubes every hour. Even a thin layer of scale or biological slime on the tube wall is enough to reduce heat transfer efficiency, increase back-pressure on the turbine, and cut power output. Left unchecked, fouling also accelerates electrochemical corrosion on tube inner walls, shortening equipment service life and driving up unplanned maintenance costs. Online automatic tube cleaning, circulating rubber sponge balls through the tube bundle around the clock, keeps condenser tubes clean without shutting down the unit. The right ball type depends on your cooling water quality, tube material, and fouling severity.

Recommended Cleaning Balls for Power Plant Condensers
Rubber Sponge Cleaning Balls
Sponge cleaning balls are the standard daily-use choice for online condenser tube cleaning systems. High elasticity and strong adsorption performance allow them to conform fully to the tube wall and strip soft scale, biofilm, and biological slime on every pass. Sized 1–2mm over tube ID for consistent contact pressure. Shore hardness 25–35A. Compatible with TAPROGGE and all major automatic ball circulation systems. Applicable pipe diameter Φ14–Φ38mm.
Peeling Sponge Cleaning Balls
Peeling sponge cleaning balls are designed for medium-scale deposits where standard sponge balls are no longer sufficient. The outer layer peels away progressively during circulation, exposing a fresh cleaning surface and maintaining effective scrubbing performance throughout the ball’s service life. Shore hardness 35–50A. Recommended after extended shutdown periods or when scale buildup has progressed beyond soft deposits.
Abrasive Cleaning Balls
Abrasive cleaning balls are engineered for hard mineral deposits, calcium carbonate, magnesium scale, and stubborn biological crust, that standard sponge balls cannot remove. The abrasive outer layer delivers aggressive mechanical scrubbing while the rubber core maintains shape and elasticity, protecting tube walls from damage. Shore hardness 45–65A. Abrasion resistance rated at over 1,000 cycles. Recommended for high-hardness cooling water systems or as a periodic deep-clean treatment before returning to standard sponge ball circulation.
Selecting the Right Ball for Your Condenser System
For most condenser systems running clean or moderately hard water, sponge cleaning balls handle daily online cleaning without issue. Where calcium or magnesium hardness is high, rotate in abrasive cleaning balls periodically to break up hard scale before it builds up. After a planned shutdown where heavy biological fouling has accumulated, peeling sponge cleaning balls restore tube cleanliness before returning to normal circulation.
All three types are available in custom diameters for non-standard tube IDs outside the Φ14–Φ38mm standard range. Density and Shore hardness can be adjusted to match your unit’s operating parameters.
