High temperature cleaning balls are formulated to maintain their elasticity, dimensional stability, and cleaning effectiveness in heat exchanger and process tube systems operating at temperatures where standard natural rubber balls harden, deform, or degrade. Available in EPDM and silicone compounds rated for continuous service up to 150–200°C, they provide reliable tube cleaning performance in steam heat exchangers, high-temperature process coolers, and thermal oil systems.
Natural rubber hardens and loses elasticity above approximately 80°C. A hardened ball loses the interference fit compression needed to maintain tube wall contact, reducing cleaning pressure and allowing fouling to accumulate unchecked. In severe cases, a hardened ball can jam inside the tube rather than passing through cleanly.
EPDM and silicone retain their elastic properties at elevated temperatures, maintaining consistent ball diameter and wall contact pressure throughout the full service temperature range.
| Material | Max Continuous Temp | Key Property | Best For |
| EPDM Rubber | ~150°C | Heat, steam & ozone resistant | Steam heat exchangers, hot water systems |
| Silicone Rubber | ~200°C | Extreme heat resistance, food-safe | High-temperature process heat exchangers |
| Fluorosilicone | ~200°C | Heat + chemical resistant | High-temp aggressive chemical environments |

Shell-and-tube heat exchangers using steam as the heating medium operate tube-side fluid temperatures well above 80°C. EPDM cleaning balls maintain cleaning effectiveness in these systems without degrading under the operating temperature. See cleaning balls for heat exchangers.
Process coolers in refineries and chemical plants handle hot hydrocarbons and aggressive process streams. Silicone or fluorosilicone high temperature balls handle both the elevated temperature and chemical exposure simultaneously. See cleaning balls for the chemical industry and cleaning balls for the oil & gas industry.
Feed water heaters and auxiliary heat exchangers in power plants operate at high steam-side temperatures that standard cleaning balls cannot withstand. High temperature EPDM balls maintain reliable performance in these systems. See cleaning balls for power plant condensers.
